F_04 is the new Finstral magazine, titled “Frame Reframe”, marking the fourth edition of the family-run South Tyrolean company’s editorial project dedicated to windows, architecture and the built environment. The publication brings together leading European architects, designers and thinkers, exploring change as a continuous process of reinvention, in line with Finstral’s long-standing commitment to redefining the profiles and contours of windows and doors for over fifty years.
This issue offers original perspectives on the role of the window within domestic space: from the dialogue with designer Jonathan Olivares, who questions whether windows can be considered pieces of furniture, to Johannes Bauer’s photographic interpretation of windows and entrance doors as primary architectural elements. Among the featured contributions, Arno Ritter in conversation with Nathalie de Vries reflects on the value of customization within serial production, while the Barcelona-based studio Arquitectura-G addresses indoor climate regulation in the context of climate change. The magazine also revisits iconic works such as Villa Girasole by engineer Angelo Invernizzi and presents contemporary projects in which the window becomes a central element of architectural composition.
Alongside theoretical insights, the magazine includes reflections on building longevity by international experts, visual narratives on minimally invasive installation methods and a curated selection of outstanding projects across Europe, where windows play a key role in innovative design solutions. The leitmotif “Frame Reframe” extends to the cover concept as well: each copy features a unique generative artwork created through an algorithm developed by digital artist Anna Lucia, echoing Finstral’s production logic, where a fixed number of components generates hundreds of thousands of bespoke windows every year. Available in seven languages, F_04 can be requested online free of charge.
